Accessibility does not live in a policy document; it lives in the pavement. I walked my district counting the state of the tactile paving, and 40% of it was damaged or non-standard.
This was from the time I ran my secondary school’s startup club. The club’s other ideas started from what people said in surveys; this one started from a number I walked and counted myself.
From that data I designed a handheld navigator with a LiDAR sensor that passes directions to the hand as vibrating braille. It never reached implementation and stayed at concept stage — it is recorded here not as a result but as an origin. “Accessibility & Aging” is still one of my research interests.
